Joe Hangs Up His Spanners After 50 Years In The Same Organisation.

Joe O’Shaughnessy has retired from Booth Mechanical Services Ltd after having served the Company for 50 years, a remarkable achievement in this day and age.

In 1959, at the tender age of 16, Joe O’Shaughnessy took up the position of an ‘Apprentice Plumber’ with the then Unit Construction based in Speke, Liverpool and coming out of his time five years later, Joe then progressed through to site management.

Joe has earned his rest and reckons he has fitted enough pipe work over the last 50 years to stretch half way around the world. He now intends to travel throughout Australia and New Zealand and is continuing his support of an orphanage-building project in Goa.

The Company provides plumbing and central heating installation services primarily to the housing market throughout the North West Region. Booth Mechanical Services was originally part of the Alfred Booth Group that also owned Unit Construction and they have continued, for the last four decades, their proud tradition and record of taking on and training apprentices every year. Ron Hitchmough, Company Chairman said “Booth’s has always retained its traditional values throughout the swings in the market place and Joe is an illustration of the success of our ideals which have resulted in us having many other current staff who started with us as apprentices and have progressed through to management”.

The photograph shows Joe, centre, being presented with a cheque by Tony Hull, Finance Director, and Ron Hitchmough, Chairman.
